KATHMANDU, March 31:
Kathmandu Cycle City 2020, Nepal Cycling Association, Come on Youth Stand Up, Clean Air Network Nepal, Nepalese Youth for Climate Action, World Cyclists Foundation, Rotract Club of Kathmandu and Nepal Unites jointly are organizing Mega Cycle Rally ‘For Cycle Lanes’ on April 6, 2012 from 9am starting at Khulla Mancha.
“The main purpose for all of us to hold this cycle rally is because there are lot of cyclist in Kathmandu, some don’t even ride now because of the pollution, and that there should be a separate cycle lanes and better cycling infrastructures,” said Samriddhi Dhakal, one of the organizers of the event.
“Also, to ensure safety of cycle users and their rights for safer mobility, we are organizing this mass rally to draw attention and pressurize concerned governmental authorities to build dedicated cycle lanes throughout city. This is also being organized at a time when the government is widening the existing road networks and opening new ones supposedly to reduce traffic congestion,” stated a statement.
The event is also collecting funds from the rally to hand the Prime Minister a cycle and urge for cycle promotion.
The event is fixed to start from Khulla Manch and start rallying around Kathmandu Valley Town Development Committee in Anamnagar, Department of Roads (Babar Mahal) and back to Khulla Manch.
